Learn to Play Polo in Sydney – Beginners Welcome
Polo is often seen as an exclusive sport, but at Windsor Polo Club, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience it.
Our Discover Polo Day makes learning polo accessible, with professional coaching, practical activities and an introduction to the skills needed to get started.
Delivered by the Windsor Polo Academy by Colts, this two-hour experience combines groundwork, polo technique, riding instruction and time on horseback to give participants a genuine introduction to the game.
With a maximum of just ten adults, participants can enjoy a small-group experience with personalised guidance from experienced polo coaches.
Whether you're interested in beginner polo lessons in Sydney, trying a new horse riding activity or eventually playing club polo, this is a great place to begin.
What to Expect at Discover Polo Day
The introductory programme takes you through the fundamentals of polo, building your confidence and introducing the sport step by step.
1. Introduction to Windsor Polo Academy
Meet the academy team, learn about the sport and discover the opportunities available for beginners at Windsor Polo Club.
2. Foot Mallet Practice and Rules of Polo
Start on the ground with foot mallets while learning the basic rules, techniques and principles of polo. This is an enjoyable way to develop coordination and understand how the game works before getting on a horse.
3. Wooden Horse Polo Swing Practice
Practise holding and swinging a polo mallet using a wooden horse. This activity helps develop technique, positioning and confidence before progressing to mounted polo.
4. Polo and Riding Lesson
It's time to get in the saddle! With suitable horses and professional instruction provided, participants will experience the fundamentals of riding for polo and begin putting their new skills into practice.
5. Refreshments and Debrief
Finish the morning with refreshments, meet fellow participants and chat with the academy team about how to continue your polo journey.
Do I Need Horse Riding Experience to Try Polo?
Absolutely not!
Discover Polo Day is designed for beginners, including people who have never played polo before.
Previous horse riding experience can be helpful, but it isn't essential. The academy provides suitable horses, riding equipment and professional coaching to help participants feel comfortable and supported throughout the experience.
For experienced riders, polo offers a completely different equestrian challenge, combining horsemanship, teamwork, strategy and ball skills.
If you've previously enjoyed dressage, showjumping, eventing or recreational riding, learning polo can be an exciting way to expand your riding experience.
And if you're completely new to horses, Discover Polo Day is an opportunity to take your first steps into the equestrian world.
